OLED vs QLED: differences and what to check
OLED pixels make their own light. QLED is an LCD television using quantum-dot color and a separate backlight. The most useful comparison is how the exact models control light in your room.
OLED can switch individual pixels off. A QLED TV's light control depends on its backlight and dimming system; QLED alone does not describe those capabilities. A TV can be both QLED and Mini LED.

OLED and QLED compared
| Question | OLED | QLED |
|---|---|---|
| Where does the light come from? | Self-emitting pixels. | A backlight behind an LCD panel, with quantum-dot color. |
| How are dark areas controlled? | Individual pixels can turn off. | Check the exact model's backlight and local dimming. |
| Does the name tell me brightness? | No. Compare the model and screen size. | No. QLED is not a brightness measurement. |
| Can it also be Mini LED? | OLED does not need a separate backlight. | Yes. Quantum dots and Mini LED describe different parts of the display. |
| Will it fit my furniture? | Check cabinet, assembled height and stand footprint. | Check the same measurements; the label does not establish them. |
Which should I compare for my room?
Start with your viewing conditions. In a dark room, compare dark scenes, subtitles and shadow detail. In daylight, compare reflections and visibility from the actual seats. Ask to see normal content in a comparable picture mode rather than choosing from a store demo alone.
For gaming, compare supported refresh rates, input lag measurements, VRR and HDMI compatibility on the exact size/model. For repeated static content, read the manufacturer's care and warranty terms. These checks apply to the product you buy; the screen-type name does not settle them.
QLED, Neo QLED and QD-OLED are different names
Samsung uses Neo QLED for its Mini LED LCD ranges. QD-OLED belongs to the OLED family; the shared “QD” refers to quantum dots, not a shared LCD backlight. Read the guide to overlapping technology names when a product label combines them.

Range tiers are editorial groups, not measured picture-quality rankings. QLED products with Mini LED backlights are grouped with Mini LED here. Features can differ by size and generation.

Check the size and physical setup
Compare models at the screen size you actually need. The technology label does not establish outside width, stand height or support footprint. Check the exact US model and named stand configuration.
